Wimberley Chayon-Ryu offers Sang Hwal Mu Do (Lifestyle Martial Arts) education to children and adults. In addition to preserving traditional forms (hyung or kata) many of which are taught nowhere else, Chayon-Ryu emphasizes practical applications of ancient martial arts principles and philosophy to build strength, fitness, character, and provide our students with the ability and skills needed for self-defense. The training and teaching approach is rooted in the classic traditional methods handed down from our extensive lineage of Masters including Grandmaster Kim Soo, 10th Degree Black Belt, but modified to facilitate longevity in training, thus the term "Lifestyle Martial Arts." In addition to learning practical methods and techniques for self-defense, we also teach and practice sparring in a safe atmosphere, with the goal to improve your fighting skills in any situation.
The chief instructor is Richard D. Griffin who began training with Grand Master Kim Soo in Houston, Texas in 1971. All Black Belt and assistant instructors receive training from Grand Master Kim Soo in order to preserve uniformity in the teaching of Chayon-Ryu principles.
We are conveniently located in central Wimberley in "The Lumberyard" right on beautiful Cypress Creek at 111 Old Kyle Rd. Suite 112.
